Junior Tylar Whitaker tallied a hat trick Wednesday, leading the New Palestine girls soccer team to a 3-1 victory at Greenfield-Central. Whitaker struck first in the 28th minute when she took a feed from Nevaeh Gebhart, then beat multiple defenders and buried the shot. Ninety seconds later in the 30th minute, Rylee Hurst laid off a perfect pass for Whitaker to tally her second goal. Gebhart found Whitaker again in the 48th minute as the Dragons controlled play after halftime. The Dragons continued to press throughout the second half. Whitaker hit the post multiple times and the Dragons also had multiple close chances off several corners. The Dragons gave up a late goal when a sky high ball got lost in the lights and found its way into the back of the net. Lexi Compton earned the hard hat for the Dragons as she was put into a Varsity starting role this week, playing back to back complete games. The Dragons' JV team won 1-0. Kansas Spicer scored in the closing minutes, with Callie Rains tallying the assist. Ava Schroer and Lilly Westrate shared the clean sheet. The Dragons improved to 6-3-1 with the victory and are now 4-0 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference. They retained possession of the HHC Victory Bell, which they had earned with last week's overtime win at Mt. Vernon. The Dragons next play Saturday at home against Cathedral, with a 10 a.m. JV kickoff, followed by the varsity at 11:30 a.m.
