Track teams sweep Spartans, Lions

The New Palestine track and field teams swept a three-way meet Tuesday over Rushville and host Connersville. The Dragons girls won 13 of the 15 events and tallied 99 points to beat Connersville (27) and Rushville (15). The Dragons boys won 10 events to score 71 points, beating Rushville (42) and Connersville (28). The Dragons girls swept three events. Cadyn Brown, Victoria Miano and Cara Foster were 1-2-3 in discus. Bre Journay, Lauren Purkey and Caitlin Purkey swept the top three spots in the 400. Hailey Pardieck, Elena Daugherty and Adi Smith were the top three in the 800. Other winners were Abby Journay in high jump, Savannah Baird in pole vault, Cadyn Brown in shot put and discus, Caylee Brown in the 100 hurdles, Cayanna Brown in the 100, Pardieck in the 1600 and Addison Lindell in the 200. Adi Smith, Bre Journay, Taylor Burke and Daugherty won the 4x800. Caylee Brown, Cayanna Brown, Marly Turso and Lindell won the 4x100 relay. Abby Journay, McKenzie Hacker, Purkey and Bre Journay won the 4x400. Other individuals finishing second were Heidi Bloomer in the long jump and 3200 and Cora Kissel in the 100 hurdles. The Dragons boys swept the 800, with Mike Bauer, Zion Koch and Cody Lowe sweeping the top three. Other winners for the Dragons boys were Will Worth in pole vault, Paxton Holmes in both the 110 and 300 hurdles, Mike Bauer in the 1600, J.T. Koch in the 400 and Gabe Silvey in the 3200. Ethan Kihiu, Nick Holland, Zion Koch and Carson Cooper won the 4x800. Holmes, Will Bardonner, Jude Russell and Bryce Neuner won the 4x100. Joe Bauer, Mike Bauer, Zane Smith and Zaven Rodriguez won the 4x400. Individuals finishing second were Smith in the long jump, Bardonner in the 110 and 300 hurdles and Zion Koch in the 1600 and 800. The Dragons are back in action Thursday at Kelso Stadium against Greenwood and Perry Meridian.
