Tennis sweeps singles, but drops opener

The New Palestine girls tennis team opened its season Wednesday at Whiteland. The teams opted to play a format with three singles and four doubles matches. The Dragons swept the singles, but dropped all four doubles matches to fall 4-3 to the Warriors. The Dragons won two tiebreakers at singles to sweep. At No. 1, Arabella Deisher won 7-6(3), 6-1. Riley Watts had a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 2, while Macy Thomas won a tight 6-7(4), 7-5, 10-8 match at No. 3 singles. The doubles teams of Alyssa Beller/Elliott Graham, Alyssa Appleby/Addison Ballard, Malina Mahurin/Sydney Walter and Sophie Munson/Ellie Armstrong all fell. The Dragons are next in action Friday at New Castle.
