Track sweeps Roncalli to open outdoor season

The New Palestine track and field teams opened their outdoor seasons Saturday morning by sweeping Roncalli in a dual meet. The Dragons boys won 66-64, clinching with a win by 0.4 seconds in the 4x400 relay. The Dragons girls won 75-57. The boys clinched the meet when Joe Bauer, Zane Smith, Bryce Edeon and Paxton Holmes ran 3:37.13 to win the 4x400 in a tight race, claiming the last five points to earn the win. In addition, Cadyn Brown posted the seventh-farthest discus throw in school history for the Dragons' girls, with a distance of 108-6.5, as she led a 1-2 finish. Other winners for the Dragons boys were Will Worth in pole vault (11-0), Devon Dimond in high jump (5-8), Holmes in the 110 hurdles (15.63) and 300 hurdles (41.83), Mike Bauer in the 1600 (4:30.19) and 800 (2:16.42), Carson Cooper in the 3200 (10:42.60) and the 4x800 relay of Ethan Kihiu, J.T. Koch, Nick Holland and Zion Koch (8:58.07). Individuals finishing second for the Dragons boys were Dimond in the long jump, Will Bardonner in the 110 hurdles, Carson Cooper in the 1600, Zion Koch in the 800 and Micah Jones in the 3200. Winners for the Dragons girls were Abby Journay in high jump (5-0), 100 (12.98) and 200 (27.57), Lillie Abernathy in shot put (31-3.5), Savannah Baird in pole vault (8-0), Taylor Burke in the 300 hurdles (51.48), the 4x800 relay of Adi Smith, McKenzie Hacker, Taylor Stone and Olivia Weaver (10:41.28) and the 4x400 relay of Bre Journay, Marly Turso, Burke and Abby Journay. Individuals finishing second were Heidi Bloomer in long jump, Brown in shot put, Victoria Miano in discus, Burke in the 100 hurdles, Elena Daugherty in the 1600, Bre Journay in the 400, Weaver in the 800 and Smith in the 3200.
