Golf claims conference crown

The New Palestine girls golf team claimed the Hoosier Heritage Conference championship Saturday, shooting 347 at Albany Golf Club and placing all five players in the Top 10. The Dragons beat Mt. Vernon (359) by 12 strokes. Delta was third with 364. Pendleton Heights (392), Yorktown (417), New Castle (422), Greenfield-Central (441) and Shelbyville (445) rounded out the scoring. Katie Kelley shot 84 to finish fourth overall and lead the Dragons. Lily Kirchner's 86 was fifth overall. Hanna Beller finished seventh with an 88, while Lauren Deering was eighth overall with an 89. All four won All-HHC honors, which went to the low eight scorers. In addition, Lauren Appleby finished 10th overall with a 90. Dragons coach Sarah O'Brien was named HHC Coach of the Year. Yorktown's Kayleigh Aguilaro was the conference medalist with a 74. The Dragons are next in action Monday at The Links for their Senior Night match against Mt. Vernon.
