Volleyball wins Greenwood Invitational title

The New Palestine volleyball team had to go overtime in one set in each match Saturday, but the Dragons pulled out three straight-set wins to claim the Greenwood Invitational championship. In the title match, the Dragons beat Greenwood 27-25, 25-16. Bella Brownfield led the way with 16 kills. Sam Gooding had 25 assists and Josie Corbett five kills. In pool play, the Dragons beat Scecina 25-15, 27-25 - their third victory over the Crusaders this season. Rachel Burke had 10 kills and Corbett five. Gooding had 21 assists. Kyndra Monteith had five aces, while Azure Flagle tallied nine digs. In the second match, the Dragons beat Chatard 28-26, 25-11. Brownfield tallied eight kills and Burke six. Nyla Lewis also had six kills. Gooding set 22 assists and seven digs. Flagle tallied 11 digs. "Three great, competitive wins," Dragons coach Kelli Gabehart said. "I'm proud of our fight and winning some close matches." The Dragons are now 13-2 on the season. In addition, the Dragons' freshman team also won the New Palestine Invitational title.
