The New Palestine boys soccer team battled tooth and nail with Lawrence North Saturday, but a 35th-minute goal by the Wildcats stood up as the Dragons fell 1-0. The Dragons had some early chances, as Paxton Holmes stepped into a shot in the sixth minute that forced a save. A minute later, Cohen Wintin charged a loose ball in the box, but it was smothered by the Wildcats' goalkeeper. In the 14th minute, Andon Colclazier played a dangerous ball into the box to Canova off a free kick, but it was redirected just wide. Lawrence North was awarded a penalty kick in the 29th minute, but Jake Wells made a diving save to keep the game scoreless. In the 35th minute, the Wildcats took a shot from 25 yards out that rang off the underside of the crossbar and bounced down over the goal line for the game's lone goal. The Dragons' best chance in the second half came in the 45th minute, as Lawrence North's goalkeeper carried the ball out of the penalty area. Canova took the ensuing free kick, but it was blocked by the wall and deflected out for acorner. Holmes had a good look in the 61st minute, but he went just over the crossbar from close range. The Dragons are now 5-5 on the season. They next play Tuesday at Greenwood.
