Gymnastics wins first-ever regional title

The New Palestine gymnastics team won its first-ever regional championship Friday night, posting a season-best score of 108.55 and winning two of the four individual regional titles. The Dragons beat defending champion Columbus North by three-tenths of a point, as the Bull Dogs scored 108.25. Noblesville (106.55), Roncalli (102.65), New Castle (101.85) and Connersville (98.4) rounded out the field. Lexi Hall won the regional champion on the vault, scoring 9.25. Lynzie Stiller won the regional title on the floor exercise with a score of 9.65. The Dragons had three gymnasts in the all-around Top 10 - Hall was third (36.325), Olivia Frank eighth (35.575) and Stiller ninth (35.225). In addition to Hall's winning vault, Stiller finished sixth (8.975) and Frank in a tie for ninth (8.825). With Stiller winning floor exercise, the Dragons had two top-six scores, as Hall and Frank tied for sixth (9.4). On balance beam, Frank was second (9.075), Kalle Jones tied for third (9.05) and Hall fifth (8.85). Hall finished sixth on uneven bars (8.825), with Stiller eighth (8.7) and Olivia Clark ninth (8.55). The Dragons advance to next week's State Finals, which will be held at 11 a.m. March 14 at Worthen Arena in Muncie.
