The New Palestine boys soccer team scored two goals in the first four minutes Thursday en route to an 8-1 victory over Hoosier Heritage Conference rival Shelbyville. The victory improves the Dragons' record to 5-4 overall and 4-0 in the HHC. The Dragons started quickly, scoring in the second minute when Andon Colclazier sent a long ball over the top to Elliott Canova, who beat the keeper 1v1 to the far post. In the fourth minute, the Dragons made it 2-0 as Cohen Wintin's shot was blocked and deflected to Colclazier, who rocketed it home from the 18. The Dragons had a couple other opportunities in the ensuing minutes, but then broke through again in the 24th minute when Mark Everett sent Paxton Holmes in free for a goal from 12 yards out to make it 3-0. Wintin made it 4-0 in the 34th minute, volleying in a beautiful far-post cross from Canova. The Dragons scored quickly again in the second half, with two goals in the first four minutes. Colclazier scored a brace in the 42nd minute with a rocket. In the 44th minute, Drew Potter sent a long ball over the top on a free kick that found Cole Christopher for a goal. Shelbyville scored in the 59th minute, but the Dragons had an answer. Holmes fed Christopher for a close-in shot in the 71st minute, then Wintin brought down Canova's free kick and buried it to give the Dragons an 8-1 lead in the 73rd minute. Wintin, Colclazier and Christopher all had braces for the Dragons, while Colclazier and Wintin each also had assists. Canova had two assists to go along with his goal. Holmes had a goal and an assist. Everett and Potter each also had assists. The Dragons also won the JV game 5-0, with Jack Potter scoring twice and Mekhi McFarland, Wes Harbert and Will Worth also tallying goals. The Dragons are next in action Saturday at home against Lawrence North, with a 10 a.m. JV kickoff, followed by the varsity.
