The New Palestine girls soccer team seized control of the Hoosier Heritage Conference's Victory Bell trophy Wednesday, as Shaylee Frank's overtime goal led the Dragons to a 1-0 victory over Mt. Vernon. The victory ended an 18-match conference winning streak for the Marauders. It marked the second consecutive year the two teams had played to OT. The two teams played 80 minutes of evenly-matched soccer in regulation with neither team scoring. After the first overtime, a shootout looked likely, but in the 90th minute, Nevaeh Gebhart crossed the ball to a well-marked Shaylee Frank, who struck the ball one time with her left into the back of the goal. The Dragons were able to fend off the Marauders in the last three minutes to win the game 1-0. The Dragons' back line of Vivian Miller, Allie Blum, Addison Lindell, Campbell Wintin and Bethany Blachly was strong all night, giving up just a few good opportunities on goal. Goalkeeper MacKenzie Hacker was able to stop the Marauders each time they had a chance on goal for the clean sheet. The Dragons are now 3-0 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference. They will play next at home Monday against Center Grove.
