Girls soccer downs Pike in opener

The New Palestine girls soccer team opened its season Tuesday with a 5-1 victory at Pike. The Dragons scored the opening goal before the host Red Devils tied the game up at halftime. The Dragons then exploded for four second-half goals. Tylar Whitaker scored a hat trick for the Dragons. Rylee Hurst and Neveah Gebhart also scored goals. Allie Blum, Anna Luker, Izzie Myers and Bethany Blachly tallied assists. The Dragons JV also won 9-0. Brooke Tanksley scored four goals and an assist. Addison Lindell tallied twice. Felicity Barrington, Paige Jones and Shaylee Frank also scored. Frank had two assists. Jaeda Jeffries and Ava Schroer shared the shutout.. The Dragons are next in action Thursday in their home opener against Ben Davis. The JV game will kick off at 5:30 p.m. at Kelso Stadium, followed by the varsity.
