Golf claims county crown

The New Palestine golf team won its second trophy in four days Tuesday, shooting 170 to win the Hancock County championship. The Dragons bested Mt. Vernon (183), Greenfield-Central (249) and Eastern Hancock (263) in the nine-hole competition at Hawk's Tail. The Dragons had three All-County golfers. Katie Kelley finished second and Hanna Beller third overall, as each shot 41s, finishing one stroke behind the overall champion. Lauren Deering was fourth with a 42. Lauren Appleby shot 46 and Lily Kirchner 47. The Dragons were also strong on the greens. Beller had 11 putts, Deering 12 and Kelley 13, propelling them to the title. The Dragons are next in action Thursday at The Links against Cathedral.
