CC teams compete at MV, county

The New Palestine cross country teams competed in Saturday's Mt. Vernon Invitational - and also the Hancock County meet simultaneously. Because the four county schools were all running, their scores were also tabulated as the annual Hancock County meet in addition to the overall invitational scoring. The Dragons boys finished seventh of eight teams in the overall race with 147 places, and fourth of four in the county. Mt. Vernon (34) defeated Greenfield-Central (65) for the invitational title. Jake Cooper led the Dragons with a 14th-place finish (17:22.9). Gavin Smith was 29th (18:39.7), Jacob Collins 31st (18:48.7), Hayden Taylor 41st (19:25.2) and Sam Ragsdale 45th (19:27.0). With regards to the county, MV tallied 26 places, G-C 45, Eastern Hancock 81 and the Dragons 85. Cooper was 10th and earned All-County honors. Smith was 17th, Collins 18th, Taylor 19th and Ragsdale 21st. The Dragons girls placed fifth of five full teams at the MV invitational with 127 places, and third of four in the county. MV (35) defeated Whiteland (64) for the invitational title. Courtney Study led the Dragons with an eighth-place finish (20:55.2). Amelia Stone was 33rd (23:30.3), Heidi Bloomer 36th (23:52.5), Addison Uhl 37th (23:57.3) and Evelyn Kell 47th (25:13.1). With regards to the county, MV tallied 22 places, G-C 45, the Dragons 69 and EH was incomplete. Study was fifth and an All-County runner, Stone 19th, Bloomer 20th, Uhl 21st and Kell 24th. The Dragons next compete Sept. 2 in the Marion Invitational at Indiana Wesleyan University.
