The New Palestine girls soccer team won its conference opener Saturday, beating Delta 5-1. The Dragons conceded the first goal in the opening minutes, but quickly took control of the game, dominating possession for most of the 80 minutes. Delta's keeper kept the Eagles in the lead with a number of great saves, but once the Dragons found their rhythm, they put away five unanswered goals. Hannah Sund scored twice - her first two career varsity goals. Shaylee Frank, Vivian Miller and Tyler Whitaker also scored for the Dragons. Whitaker also picked up an assist as did Brooke Tanksley and Nevaeh Gebhart. Ashlyn Sanford earned the team's hard hat award. The Dragons are next in action Tuesday at home against Franklin Central, with a 6 p.m. JV kickoff.
