Boys basketball splits second day at Ray Furney Classic.

The New Palestine boys basketball team used an early 3-point barrage to beat Castle 80-53 Saturday in the opening game of the bronze bracket at the Ray Furney Classic in Lawrenceburg. The Dragons then dropped a 66-40 decision to Harrison (West Lafayette) in the second game and finished 10th in the tournament. The Dragons hit 12 first-half 3-pointers en route to building a 46-28 halftime lead and continued to maintain a double-digit edge through the rest of the game. Evan Darrah hit seven 3-pointers in the opening half and scored 17 of his 19 points. His three first-quarter 3-pointers helped the Dragons build a 23-14 lead at the quarter break, as the Dragons hit seven 3-pointers in the opening frame. Darrah hit three more 3-pointers in the second quarter, scoring 11 points as the Dragons doubled their lead, going up 46-18 with their highest-scoring half of the year. The Dragons then went inside for their second-half points, hitting two 3-pointers, but scoring on drives to continue to maintain a comfortable lead. NP led 61-42 after three and extended the lead to 27 at game's end. Davison led the Dragons with 23 points. Darrah tallied 19. Evan Study scored eight, while Kade Stephens had a season-high seven points. Eli Parrett tallied six, Liam Atkinson, Carson Rush and Cael Butler five each, and Layton Pardue two. Seven different Dragons hit a 3-pointer in the game. In the second game, the Dragons fell behind early. A pair of 3-pointers from Rush and Butler cut the deficit to 13-12 after a quarter. Harrison used a hot-shooting second quarter to go up 33-20 at the break. Davison led the Dragons with seven points in the half. The Dragons outscored the Raiders in the third and cut the deficit to 40-29, but Harrison got hot in the fourth and scored 26 points to extend the margin to 66-40 at the final buzzer. Davison scored nine points to lead the Dragons. Rush scored eight, Parrett seven, Butler five, Stephens four, Evan Study four and Darrah three. Davison was named to the All-Tournament Team. The Dragons are now 5-5 on the season. They next play Friday at home against Delta.
