Wagner-Gilbert wins sectional title, eight Dragons advance

June Wagner-Gilbert won a sectional championship, leading a contingent of eight Dragons wrestlers advancing from Friday's Muncie Central sectional. As a team, the Dragons finished third in the 15-team sectional. Wagner-Gilbert pinned all three wrestlers she faced at 135, with a 3:20 fall over Carmel's Giabella Romano, a 17-second fall over Wes-Del's Nevaeh Bevelhimer, and then a 27-second pin over Jay County's Maleah Parsons in the title match. Wagner-Gilbert heads to the regional with a 29-3 record. Her title-match win was also the 100th of her career. The Dragons had two second-place finishers. At 170, Reagan Fortier pinned Carmel's Kelly O'Hara in 1:03 and Monroe Central's Kiara Lawrence in 2:18. She lost by fall to Wes-Del's Paislee Chambers in the title match. Fortier heads to the regional 21-11. At 190, Miranda LaRoche won with a 1:45 fall over Yorktown's Dezirae Walker and a 2:57 pin of Muncie Central's Joslyn Sutton in the first two rounds. She lost by fall to Jay County's Amara Crawford in the title match. LaRoche is 13-10. Four Dragons finished third - Calie Means at 120, Kalissa Jacobs at 125, Bellamy Reardon at 140 and Elizabeth Champ at 155. At 145, Carmie Kelle was fourth. The top four finishers in each weight class advance to regional. Also placing for the Dragons was Callee Rains, who was sixth at 130. The Dragons will head back to the Muncie Fieldhouse for the regional, which will be held Jan. 10.
