Girls swim sweeps Eagles, Trojans; boys split

The New Palestine girls swimming and diving team swept a triangular meet Thursday with New Castle and Guerin Catholic, while the Dragons boys split. The Dragons girls beat New Castle 85-16 and Guerin 72-30. The boys beat Guerin 77-20, but fell 57-44 to New Castle. Winners for the Dragons girls were Lillie Abernathy in the 200 IM (2:32.92) and 500 freestyle (6:15.75), Cadyn Brown in the 50 freestyle (27.54), Isabelle Singer in the 100 freestyle (1:05.05), Ireland Armstrong in the 100 backstroke (1:10.80), the 200 medley relay of Arianna Tull, Abernathy, Piper Schaefer and Armstrong (2:07.79), the 200 free relay of Isabelle Tull, Jozlynn Hart, Brown and Armstrong (1:53.26); and the 400 free relay of Abernathy, Hart, Brown and Armstrong (4:21.37). Individuals finishing second were Ellie Ragsdale in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, Abigail Singer in the 100 breaststroke, Isabelle Singer in the 200 freestyle, Gwen Melby in the 200 IM, Isabelle Tull in diving, Winning for the boys were the 200 free relay of Max Watson, Sam Dobbins, Noah Merchant and Jalen Thompson (1:40:54). Individuals finishing second were Sam Dobbins in the 200 freestyle, Reese Cox in the 200 IM, Hudson Hughes in diving, Jalen Thompson in the 100 freestyle, Parker Hurst in the 500 freestyle and Jake Myers in the 100 backstroke. The Dragons boys are now 4-3 on the season, while the girls are 5-4. Both teams are back in action Dec. 27 at home against Franklin Central.
