Swim teams sweep PH

The New Palestine swimming and diving teams posted a pair of victories over Pendleton Heights Tuesday night. The Dragons girls won handily, beating the Arabians 134-47. The Dragons boys won a tight 92-90 decision. Individual winners for the Dragons girls were Ireland Armstrong in the 50 freestyle (28.06) and 100 freestyle (1:03.63), Isabelle Tull in diving (207.25), Lillie Abernathy in the 100 butterfly (1:06.31) and 100 breaststroke (1:13.78), Gwen Melby in the 500 freestyle (6:26.95) and Ellie Ragsdale in the 200 IM (2:42.77). The Dragons also swept the relays. Arianna Tull, Abernathy, Melby and Armstrong won the 200 medley relay (2:09.33). Cadyn Brown, Abernathy, Jozlynn Hart and Armstrong won the 200 free relay (1:54.36). Isabelle Singer, Ragsdale, Abigail Singer and Melby won the 400 free relay (4:29.67). Individuals finishing second were Madi Bard in the 200 freestyle, Abigail Singer in the 200 IM, Brown in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, Isabelle Singer in the 100 butterfly, Ansley Tucker in the 500 freestyle, Arianna Tull in the 100 backstroke and Melby in the 100 breaststroke. The Dragons' depth won out in the boys meet, as the Dragons won two of 12 events. Winners for the Dragons boys were Jake Myers in the 100 butterfly (58.80) and Reese Cox, Blake Hurst, Jalen Thompson and Myers in the 200 free relay (1:37.59), But the Dragons had six individual second-place finishes from Blake Hurst in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke, Reese Cox in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke, Parker Hurst in the 200 freestyle and Sam Dobbins in the 500 freestyle. The Dragons boys are now 3-2 on the season. The girls are 3-4. Both teams next compete Thursday at home in a triangular meet against New Castle and Guerin Catholic.
