The New Palestine volleyball team opened its season Saturday with a 25-13, 25-20, 25-9 victory at Scecina. The Dragons had a balanced attack, led by sophomore Lauren Wilson, who had nine kills and seven digs. Senior Reagan Kleiman added eight kills and two blocks, while junior Rachel Burke had seven kills and three blocks. Junior Nyla Lewis had five kills. Junior Bella Brownfield added five kills, four digs and two aces. Senior setter isabella Gizzi had 30 assists, three kills and two blocks. Senior Honour Mallory led the defense with 12 digs, while freshman Azure Flagle added six digs. "Great first win against a scrappy Scecina team," Dragons coach Kelli Gabehart said. "It was a fun match with a lot of long rallies. Gizzi set a balanced attack at the net which left Scecina guessing who would be set. Rachel Burke was a huge asset at the net scoring points and defending with her block." The Dragons' JV won 25-9, 25-12, while the C team won 25-13, 25-19. The Dragons open their home season Monday against Connersville, with a 5:30 p.m. JV start, followed by the varsity.
