Boys basketball falls on road

The New Palestine boys basketball team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, falling 78-66 at Greenwood. The Dragons, playing their second game of the year, fell behind early, but saw the deficit grow to double digits in the second quarter and were unable to climb out of the deficit. Will Davison and Evan Darrah both scored their career highs. Davison tallied 21 points and Darrah 20 to lead the Dragons. Sam Hirschy added 11 points. Greenwood's Parker Doolin had a big start, as he hit three 3-pointers and scored 15 of his game-high 29 points in the first quarter. Davison tallied five points and Darrah four for the Dragons in the opening frame, but NP trailed 19-14 at the break. Greenwood pulled ahead to a 38-25 halftime lead, outscoring the Dragons 19-11 in the second quarter. Hirschy tallied five points and Darrah four for the Dragons, but Greenwood's Acen Swain hit two triples and scored 10 points in the frame. Davison hit two 3-pointers and Darrah a triple and a basket in the third, as NP hit four 3-pointers in the quarter, but the Dragons were unable to cut the deficit, as they trailed 55-43 going into the fourth. In the final frame, Davison started it with a three-point play. He scored 10 points in the frame - including 5-of-5 from the line. Darrah added seven points, but Doolin scored 12 points in the frame and Greenwood hit 8-of-12 from the line to keep the Dragons at arm's length. In addition to the three double-figure scorers, Eli Parrett tallied five points. Cael Butler added four. Liam Atkinson tallied three and Evan Study two. The Dragons are now 1-1 on the season. They next play Wednesday at home against Chatard in the Dragons' home opener. 14-25-43-66 19-38-55-78
