The New Palestine boys soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision Saturday at No. 7 Brownsburg. The Dragons conceded two goals in the first five minutes, one from a corner kick, the other on a counterattack after the ensuing kickoff. The Bulldogs added goals from the run of play in the 25th, 64th and 77th minutes. The Dragons' best chances came later in the game. In the 65th minute, a ball played into the box found Eli Martin. He and Mark Everett kept the ball alive in the goalmouth but Brownsburg's keeper smothered it. In the 73rd minute, Elliott Canova took a free kick from midfield. Cole Christopher just missed running onto the end of the service for a header at the far post. Two minutes later, Canova missed just wide on a driven shot from 25 yards out. Dragons goalkeeper Jake Wells had a number of solid saves, parrying away a driven shot in the 10th minute. In the 13th, he made a spectacular diving save on a shot off a corner kick. On the ensuing corner, the Bulldogs again played the ball into a dangerous area, but defender Aaron Smith headed it off the line. Wells later made a sliding save on a one-on-one attack inside 10 yards. The Dragons are now 2-1 on the season. They next play Tuesday at home against Whiteland, with a 6 p.m. JV/7:30 p.m. varsity kickoff.
