The New Palestine girls basketball team scored the first eight points of the game and held No. 14 Franklin Central scoreless for the first 5:15, but succumbed to a 29-point first-half run en route to a 66-30 loss to the Flashes Tuesday at home. Brooklyn Crim started the game with two free throws. A free throw by Haven Flagle, a 3-pointer by Gabbie Brown and another basket from Crim made it 8-0 with three minutes to go in the quarter. But FC scored, which launched a run in which the Flashes tallied the final 14 points of the quarter to go up 14-8 after one. FC then scored the first 15 points of the second quarter to build a 29-8 lead before Brown hit a runner in the lane. Kendra Moore later drained a 3-pointer, but the Dragons trailed 38-13 at the break. NP was much stronger in the second half, getting open looks and running its offense. Brown hit another 3-pointer, while Sawyor Murdick, Crim and Sadey Hughbanks all hit shots, but the Dragons trailed 54-22. Murdick and Kenna Tweedy both hit fourth-quarter 3-pointers, while Hughbanks also scored inside. Brown led the Dragons with eight points. Crim tallied six. Murdick scored five points. Hughbanks had four. Tweedy and Moore each scored three, while Flagle scored one point. The Dragons are now 4-1 on the season. They next play Thursday at home against Connersville.
