The New Palestine girls soccer team opened the season Monday with a strong performance in a 3-0 shutout of Mooresville at Kelso Stadium. McKenzie Hacker scored her first career varsity goal in the opening half to give the Dragons a 1-0 lead at the break. Bethany Blachly extended the lead when she buried a great feed from Tylar Whitaker off a corner kick. Whitaker then added the third goal later in the contest. Kylee Beranek, playing her first-ever game as a goalkeeper, recorded the clean sheet, behind a defense that was strong, allowing only two shots on goal. The Dragons (1-0) are next in action Thursday at Ben Davis. The JV game was canceled due to lightning.
