Girls basketball routs Batesville for second win

Three players scored in double figures Saturday, leading the New Palestine girls basketball team to a comfortable 68-33 victory at Batesville. Gabbie Brown tallied 16 points. Sadey Hughbanks tallied 15 and Haven Flagle 12 to lead a balanced Dragons attack. The Dragons seized control quickly. Hughbanks scored seven points and the Dragons hit three 3-pointers in the opening frame to build a 19-9 lead. NP then broke it open with a 24-point second quarter. Brown hit two 3-pointers and scored eight points. Flagle, Kendra Moore and Hughbanks also hit triples. Brooklyn Crim scored two baskets in each of the opening two frames. The Dragons headed into the break with a 43-17 lead. They extended it to 60-30 in the third quarter, with Hughbanks and Brown scoring five points each. Flagle tallied five fourth-quarter points to help seal the game. The Dragons did their damage from beyond the arc, hitting 11 3-pointers. Brown hit four, while Hughbanks, Moore and Flagle hit two each and Sawyor Murdick one. In addition to the three double-figure scorers, Moore added nine points. Flagle scored eight, Murdick five and McKenzie Hacker four. The Dragons are now 2-0. They next play Wednesday at Greenwood.
