Boys Varsity Track, Girls Varsity Track · Track teams sweep Woodmen


The New Palestine track teams swept a dual meet Tuesday at Greenwood.

The Dragons girls won 87-43, while the NP boys won 70-62.

Winners for the NP girls were Lexi Baynes in both the 200 and 400 meters, Faith Hensel in the shot put, Sydney Miller in discus, Maddie Smathers in the 300 hurdles, Taylor Kelley in the 100, Courtney Study in the 800, Brenna Shaw in the 1600 and Emma Mann in the 3200.

Study. Emily Adam, Megan Collins and Kendall Mann won the 4×800 relay, while Shaw, Kendall Mann, Anne Bauer and Baynes won the 4×400 relay.

NP boys winners were Nick Bastian in the long jump, Sage Halter in the pole vault, A.J. Reierson in the 300 hurdles, Wes Jewell in the 400, Jaret Whitaker in the 800 and Connor Lapenta in the 3200. The meet came down to the 4×400 relay, which the quartet of Caleb Byers, Drew Lapenta, Whitaker and Jewell won to clinch the meet. Whitaker, Cody Crawmer, Connor Lapenta and Ethan Galster also won the 4×800 relay.

The track and field teams are back in action Thursday at Kelso Stadium against Greenfield-Central and Shelbyville.
