The New Palestine girls basketball team dropped a 49-37 decision Wednesday at home to Warren Central.
The Warriors used a 10-2 second-quarter run to take a 26-15 halftime lead. The Dragons drew the deficit to four at 28-24 after Isabella Gizzi scored four quick points to start the third quarter, followed by a Grace Marshall basket and 3-pointer by Addi Jones, but Warren Central’s Sanaa Thomas scored five consecutive points to push the Warriors’ lead to nine, sparking a 9-2 run that ended the quarter and restored an 11-point lead.
The Dragons had strong balance in the first half, tying the game at 2, 4, 8 and 10 early. Six different players scored in the first half, with Koryn Marshall tallying two second-quarter baskets to lead NP with four points. Gizzi and Grace Marshall each scored four points in the third quarter. Jones hit two 3-pointers and scored eight of her team-high 13 points in the fourth quarter in an effort to rally the Dragons.
In addition to Jones’ double-digit effort, Grace Marshall scored eight points. Gizzi tallied six, Koryn Marshall five, Anna Ackerman three and Rachel Kelley two.
K’la Talley scored 19 points to lead Warren Central.
The Dragons are now 9-6 on the season. They next play Saturday at Hamilton Southeastern, with a 1 p.m. JV tipoff.
