Coed Varsity Swimming, Girls Varsity Swimming · Girls swimming splits triangular meet

The New Palestine girls swim team had a strong meet Thursday, splitting with Greenwood and Roncalli.

The Dragons beat Roncalli 62-40 and dropped a 54-48 decision to Greenwood. It was the first victory over Roncalli and the closest result against Greenwood in recent memory.

The Dragons were led by the relay team of Sullie Leavell, Kyleigh Turner, Katelyn Trimpe and Adrianna Huston. The quartet won the 200 free relay and finished second in the 400 free relay.

Turner and Kayleigh Wright finished second and third in the 50 freestyle. Turner and Trimpe were also second and third in the 100 freestyle. Alayna Walker and Izzy Napier placed second and third in diving. Leavell placed second in the 100 butterfly and third in the 100 backstroke. Huston was third in both the 200 free and 500 freestyle. Lillie Poag was also third in the 100 breaststroke.

The Dragons are now 3-1 on the season. They next compete Dec. 1 at home against Greenfield-Central, which will also be the opening night for the boys team.
