Girls Varsity Gymnastics · Shanahan advances to gymnastics State Finals

New Palestine senior Grace Shanahan will compete in Saturday’s IHSAA State Finals at Worthen Arena in Muncie after advancing from Monday’s Columbus East regional.

Shanahan placed third in the all-around at the regional, tallying a score of 36.375. The top six placers from each event and the all-around move on to the State Finals. As an all-around competitor, she will compete in all four events Saturday.

As a team, the Dragons placed sixth in the regional with a score of 103.0. Columbus North (109.825), Richmond (108.725) and New Castle (104.9) advance to the State Finals as teams.

Shanahan placed fourth in the vault (9.325) to lead the Dragons. Kennedy Garrett was 16th and Emma Poag 24th.

On floor exercise, Shanahan placed fifth (9.3). Addie Halter was 11th (9.1) and Garrett 24th.

On uneven bars, Shanahan placed seventh (8.925), with Garrett 21st and Poag 26th.

Garrett was seventh on the balance beam (9.0), with Shanahan 10th (8.825) and Halter 26th.

The IHSAA State Finals will commence in Muncie with opening ceremonies at 12:30 p.m., followed by competition at 1 p.m.
