Richard Clevenger added to his sectional title Saturday with a regional championship, as he swept the field at the Perry Meridian regional to win the 195-pound title.
Clevenger won a 7-2 decision over Warren Central’s D’Aris McCloud in the championship match to claim the regional title. Earlier in the day, he won with two falls in :49 and 2:59.
Clevenger will take a 32-5 record and a No. 1 seed into next week’s New Castle semistate.
Two other Dragons advanced from the regional and will compete at New Castle next week.
For the second straight week, Christian White was runner-up at 120 to Warren Central’s Carleto Perry. White dropped a 3-2 decision in the championship match. Earlier in the day, he won with a 2:15 fall over Roncalli’s Carter Chapman and a 5-3 decision over Perry Meridian’s Andrew Haggerty. White takes a 31-3 record into the semistate.
Tucker Keevers is the third Dragon advancing, as he finished third at 285. Keevers punched his semistate ticket with a 28-second fall over Beech Grove’s Jack broadwell. He then dropped a 5-1 decision to Franklin Central’s Antone Alexander in the semifinal, but pinned Southport’s Jashawn Jackson in the third-place match. Keevers is 25-13.
Four other Dragons competed at the regional but fell i the first round – Chase Nelson (132), Darin Johnson (138), Max Jones (145) and Will Olive (220).
