The New Palestine swim teams both had strong performances at the weekend’s Warren Central Invitational.
The Dragon boys finished second in the event with 333 points, finishing just behind Warren Central (392) and ahead of Cathedral (281) and Ben Davis (272) in the 16-team event.
The NP girls placed fifth with 220 points, finishing just behind fourth-place Ritter (226) and third-place Martinsville (237.5). Warren Central won with 424 points.
Diver Colin Stacey was the highest individual finisher, placing second in his event. Austin Lines was fourth.
The Dragons also had a runner-up finish in the 200 free relay, coming from Chase Siler, Ben Miesse, Damon Estes and Jack Schwartz.
Schwartz and Miesse combined on two top-eight finishes. Schwartz was third and Miesse seventh in the 50 freestyle. In the 100, Schwartz placed fourth and Miesse fifth.
Kyle Ellis was fourth in the 200 free and fifth in the 500 free. Estes was fifth in the 100 butterfly. Siler finished fifth in the 100 breaststroke and sixth in the 200 IM. Shirk was seventh in the 100 backstroke. Shirk, Siler, Estes and Miesse placed fourth in the 200 medley relay. Shirk, Chase Martin, Schwartz and Ellis were sixth in the 400 free relay.
For the Dragon girls, Karen Shriver led the way with a fourth-place finish in diving. Katelyn Trimpe was fifth in the 200 free and seventh in the 50 free. In the 100 backstroke, Kyleigh Turner was sixth and Emma Buergelin eighth. Bailey Young placed eighth in the 500 free.
The 200 free relay team of Trimpe, Kayleigh Wright, Kyleigh Turner and Young finished fifth. Moriah Corey, Sydni Wilson, Young and Trimpe finished sixth in the 400 free relay.
The boys swimmers next compete Feb. 3 at Roncalli in a three-way meet with Greenwood. The girls next compete in the sectional preliminaries Feb. 6 in the NPHS natatorium.
