Multiple Teams · Swim teams sweep Trojans, Royals


The New Palestine swim teams swept a triangular meet with Eastern Hancock and New Castle Thursday at the NPHS natatorium.

Jack Schwartz won four events at Thursday’s meet and posted the seventh-best time in NPHS history in the 50 freestyle.

The Dragon boys beat New Castle 96-76 and Eastern Hancock 109-59. The Dragon girls beat New Castle 98-66 and Eastern Hancock 110-35.

Winners for the Dragon girls were Claire Whisler in the 200 IM, Katelyn Trimpe in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle and Karen Shriver in diving. The team of Kayleigh Wright, Moriah Corey, Trimpe and Bailey Young won the 200 free relay and 400 free relay.

Winners for the Dragon boys were Chase Siler in the 200 IM, Jack Schwartz in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle and Colin Stacey in diving. The team of Ben Miesse, Siler, Damon Estes and Schwartz won the 200 free relay and 400 free relay.

Schwartz’s time of 23.5 in the 50 free is seventh-best in school history.

Individual second place finishers for the Dragon girls were Wright in the 50 freestyle, Aubri Romano in the 100 butterfly, Young in the 500 freestyle, Emma Buergelin in the 100 backstroke and Whisler in the 100 breaststroke.

Individual second place finishers for the Dragon boys were Miesse in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, Darrell Drake in diving, Estes in the 100 butterfly, Shirk in the 100 backstroke and Siler in the 100 breaststroke.
