The New Palestine girls basketball team held Indian Creek without a field goal for the entire fourth quarter, allowing the Dragons to pull away to a 60-54 victory Saturday afternoon at Indian Creek.
The Dragons are now 5-2, having won the first two games of a three-game road swing. They’ll open conference play Tuesday at New Castle.
With the game tied 48-48 going into the final period, the Dragons took the lead when Michaela Jones drained a 3-pointer. She and Jordan Reid followed with baskets to give the Dragons a cushion. NP hit 5-of-7 from the line in the final quarter to seal the game, with Grace Marshall going 3-for-4 and Isabella Gizzi 2-for-2.
Indian Creek was 6-6 from the line in the fourth quarter, but did not score a field goal, as NP outscored the host Braves 12-6 in the final frame.
Reid led all scorers with 17 points. She scored eight in the first quarter, helping stake the Dragons to a 20-13 lead. Gizzi tallied five points in the opening frame. Reid added five points and Jones four in the second quarter, which gave the Dragons a 36-33 edge going into the half, before a strong third quarter by IC tied the game.
Jones had 16 points, including two 3-pointers. Gizzi and Marshall scored nine points each. Addi Jones and Faith Hensel tallied four points each. Anna Ackerman also scored a point.
