Girls Varsity Basketball · Girls basketball rallies to win at Rushville

The New Palestine girls basketball team rallied from an early deficit to beat host Rushville 49-46 Tuesday at Rushville Memorial Gymnasium.

The Dragons held the host Lions to just 16 second-half points – and just two fourth-quarter field goals – in the rally.

Rushville led 19-11 after a quarter, but the Dragons used a 16-point second quarter to claw back within three at halftime, 30-27. NP trailed 38-34 going into the final quarter, but hit back-to-back baskets to take a 44-43 lead late, and then pulled away to the victory.

Freshman Isabella Gizzi tallied eight fourth-quarter points, including two big late free throws, to lead the Dragons. She tallied a game-high 20 points. Jordan Reid added 11 points. She scored five of the Dragons’ seven third-quarter points, then scored two more in the fourth. Michaela Jones scored three of her eight points in the fourth quarter – including a key late free throw – and Grace Marshall scored a fourth-quarter basket to help the Dragons seize the lead.

Marshall and Addi Jones scored four points each. Anna Ackerman added two points off the bench.

The Dragon JV also won 50-47.

The Dragons (4-2) are next in action Saturday at Indian Creek. The JV game begins at 11:30 a.m., with the varsity tipping off at 1 p.m.
