Coed Varsity Swimming, Girls Varsity Swimming · Girls swimming splits triangular meet to open season

The New Palestine girls swim team opened its season Tuesday by splitting a triangular meet at Lawrence Central.

Junior Kayleigh Wright was a double-winner Tuesday.

The Dragons beat host LC 60-42 and fell to Shelbyville 57-45.

Junior Kayleigh Wright was a double-winner. She won the 100 butterfly and also teamed up with Arielle Poynter, Katelyn Trimpe and Bailey Young to win the 200 free relay.

The quartet of Poynter, Trimpe, Wright and Young also finished second in the 400 free relay.

Young had two individual second-place finishes in the 200 free and 500 free. Trimpe was second in the 50 free and 100 butterfly. Poynter was third in the 100 butterfly.

Karen Shriver finished second in driving.

Lillie Poag was second in the 100 breaststroke, with Claire Whisler third. Poag was also third in the 200 IM.

The Dragons (1-1) are next in action Thursday at the NPHS natatorium against Greenwood and Roncalli.
