Boys Varsity Cross Country, Girls Varsity Cross Country · Shaw clinches State Finals berth

Junior Brenna Shaw will represent New Palestine at the IHSAA cross country State Finals after a 14th-place finish at Saturday’s Shelbyville semistate.

Shaw ran the Blue River cross country course’s 5K layout in 19:00.7. The top six teams and top 10 individual runners from non-advancing teams move on to the State Finals. Shaw was seventh among runners from non-advancing teams. She was 38.1 seconds back of semistate champion Madeline Keller of Brebeuf.

As a team, the Dragon girls finished ninth out of 20 teams with 227 places. Zionsville (86) and Carmel (95) finished first and second.

In addition to Shaw’s 14th-place finish, Emma Mann was 31st (19:30.7), Kendall Mann 57th (20:18.6), Kaylin Casner 73rd (20:32.0) and Emily Adam 118th (21:27.3).

The Dragon boys were represented by Colin Darley, who finished 122nd with a time of 17:25.0.

Shaw will run in the State Finals meet Nov. 2 at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute. The girls race will begin at 1:45 p.m.
