Boys Varsity Cross Country, Girls Varsity Cross Country · Girls cross country claims regional title

The New Palestine girls cross country team won its second straight regional title Saturday, winning the 10-team event by 11 places over Franklin Central.

The Dragons tallied 29 places, beating FC (40), Roncalli (105), Mt. Vernon (113) and Warren Central (140). Those five teams will advance to the Oct. 26 semistate at Blue River cross country course in Shelbyville.

Brenna Shaw was the individual champion, running the course in 19:00.1.

Emma Mann was fourth (19:45.2) and Kaylin Casner fifth (20:03.7). Kendall Mann placed 15th (21:00.4) and Emily Adam 17th (21:14.8).

The Dragon boys placed eighth with 195 places. Colin Darley finished 21st (17:22.9) and will advance to semistate as one of the top runners from a non-advancing team. Carson Sams finished 49th, Devon Whitaker 54th, Josh Ackerman 58th and Owen Kleine 63rd.
