The New Palestine volleyball team finished as the runner-up in Saturday’s Greenwood Invitational, going 2-1 on the day.
The Dragons went 2-0 in pool play, starting with a 27-25, 25-22 victory over Scecina. Grace Myers had 15 digs, Kaelyn Armstrong 12 kills, Rachel Popp five kills and Sarah Adam 20 assists and six digs. The victory avenged a loss from earlier in the season.
NP then won 25-9, 25-11 over Edinburgh. Lauren Dodd had six kills, Myers 10 digs and Isabella Gizzi eight assists and three aces.
In the championship match, the Dragons fell 25-18, 16-25, 15-12 to M0nrovia. Myers had 18 digs and Adam seven. Armstrong had eight kills and seven digs. Reagan Kleiman and Jada Hausz had four kills each, while Kennedy Stephenson had three.
“Today was a mix of highs and lows,” NP coach Kelli Whitaker said. “We were really focused on the Scecina match. We watched film and scouted them. I felt we came out ready to play in the match and it was a great win. Then in the championship we could not find a consistent attack. Unforced errors and Monrovia’s scrappy defense frustrated us.”
The Dragons are now 8-4 on the season. They next play Tuesday at Delta.
