Girls Varsity Softball · Softball ready for State Finals

This weekend, the New Palestine softball team will do something only four other programs in Indiana history have done – play in a third consecutive IHSAA State Finals.

The Dragons are seeking to become the first to win three straight titles.

Ranked No. 1 all season in Class 3A, New Palestine (28-3) takes on No. 7 Yorktown (18-8) for the state title at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Bittinger Stadium in West Lafayette.

A victory would give the Dragons a state record-tying sixth softball state title.

The two teams played April 16, with the Dragons winning 17-0, but the Tigers have caught stride going into the tournament. The Dragons have, too, winning all six of their tournament games by at least 10 runs. Only one – the 12-2 semistate championship victory over No. 4 Danville – went the distance.
