The New Palestine golf team shot 316 to finish as the runner-up in Monday’s sectional at Hawk’s Tail in Greenfield.
The Dragons will move on to Thursday’s regional at The Players Club in Yorktown, along with sectional champion New Castle (295) and third-place Greenfield-Central (318).
The Dragons emerged in a tight race for the top three, who advance to the regional. In addition to beating G-C by two strokes for second, the Dragons were just three strokes ahead of fourth-place Mt. Vernon, which shot 319. Triton Central was fifth with 333 in the 12-team sectional field.
Chris Guhl led the Dragons, shooting a four-over par 76, seventh-best in the sectional field. Guhl shot three birdies in his 18-hole round.
Matt Kelley followed with a 79. Matt Barada carded an 80 and Quinn Dobbins an 81. Josh Shinkle turned in a solid 84 as the fifth score.
