Brenna Shaw and the Dragons 4×800 relay both won regional titles Tuesday at Shelbyville, leading the New Palestine girls track team to third place in the Shelbyville regional.
The Dragons tallied 52 points, finishing behind Warren Central (107) and Center Grove (84). NP was five points ahead of fourth-place Whiteland. Twenty-six different teams scored.
The Dragons’ 4×800 relay of Shaw, Sophia Taylor, Grace Voelz and Kaylin Casner opened the meet with a victory, posting a time of 9:34.79. They won by 8.4 seconds over runner-up Franklin Central.
Shaw later won the 800 meters in 2:19.03.
The 4×400 relay of Jordan Reid, Shaw, Maigan Williams and Taylor finished second in 4:03.85.
They will advance to the June 1 State Finals at Indiana University. The top three finishers from each event advance.
The Dragons had three fourth-place finishers – Jordan Reid in the 100 (12.53) and 400 (58.56) meters, and Kendall Mann in the 3200 meters (11:33.41). Victoria Crowder was fifth in the 800 (2:25.35) and Casner fifth in the 1600 (5:21.66). Also placing was Aden Lumbley, who was eighth in the shot put (34-7).
