The New Palestine boys track team finished second in Friday’s Warren Central sectional, tallying 102 points. Warren Central won the title with 170 points. Roncalli was third with 82.
The Dragons had four sectional champions and advanced four more to next week’s regional.
The 4×800 relay of Josh Ackerman, Carson Sams, Devon Whitaker and Owen Kleine kicked off the meet with a title, winning in 8:14.02.
Laine Schonauer won the 400 in 50.25 seconds. Whitaker claimed the 800 in 2:04.01, leading a 1-2 finish with Kleine, who ran 2:04.56. Drew Austin won the 1600 in 4:27.75, with Josh Collins finishing third in 4:29.81.
The top three finishers in each event advance to the regional. Also advancing is the 4×400 relay of Schonauer, Sams, Collins and Austin, who finished second in 3:31.46. Richard Clevenger also moves on, finishing third in the discus with a throw of 144-3.
Placing fourth for the Dragons were Sams in the 400, Kyler Harrison in the 3200 and Tucker Keevers in the shot put. Spencer Worth was fifth in the pole vault. Dylan Harsin finished sixth in both hurdles races. Ryker Large was also sixth in the 100, with Austin finishing seventh. Colin Darley was eighth in the 3200. The 4×100 relay of Nick Payton, Austin, Charlie Spegal and Large also finished eighth.
The Dragons’ regional qualifiers will compete next Thursday in the Warren Central regional.
