The New Palestine girls track team had three individual sectional championships and advanced eight to the regional from Tuesday’s Shelbyville sectional.
The Dragons tallied 108.5 points to finish runner-up to Warren Central, which had 165. NP was ahead of third-place Franklin Central (83) and fourth-place Greenfield-Central (65) in the 11-team sectional.
The Dragons had three sectional champions. Kendall Mann won the 3200 in 11:37.13. Aden Lumbley won the shot put in 38-7. The Dragons’ 4×800 relay of Emma Mann, Brenna Shaw, Sophia Taylor and Grace Voelz won with a school record time of 9:33.89 – more than 21 seconds over runner-up Franklin Central.
The Dragons also advance three runners-up – Shaw in the 800 (2:22.72), Kaylin Casner in the 1600 (5:16.42) and the 4×400 relay of Jordan Reid, Shaw, Maigan Williams and Taylor (4:06.35). Finishing third and advancing to regional are Reid in the 100 (12.6) and Lumbley in the discus (113-5).
Placing fourth were Reid in the 400 and Faith Hensel in shot put. NP had several fifth-place finishers – Taylor in the 400, Victoria Crowder in the 800, Emily Adam in the 1600, Emma Mann in the 3200, Williams in the 300 hurdles and Jada Hausz in the high jump. Finishing sixth were Taylor Kelley in the 200 and the 4×100 relay of Kennedy Stephenson, Maya Hobbs, Kelley and Addie Halter. Anna Ackerman was seventh in the pole vault.
The Dragons will compete in next week’s regional at Shelbyville.
