Boys Varsity Baseball · Three-run rally boosts baseball on Senior Day

A three-run sixth-inning rally by the New Palestine baseball team broke a deadlock and delivered a 6-3 victory over Scecina on Senior Day.

With the game tied 3-3 headed into the bottom of the sixth, Jaden Jaques worked a leadoff walk and Luke Greene reached on an error. That set the stage for Colby Jenkins’ one-out, two-run triple to deep center, breaking the tie and giving the Dragons the lead for good. Jenkins would then come home on Zach Neligh’s base hit to left.

Jaden Jaques (3-3) finished off a complete-game victory, allowing five hits and no earned runs, the Dragons’ third consecutive game without allowing an earned run. He struck out seven and scattered five hits.

NP took an early three-run lead. In the first, Jenkins and Neligh drew walks. A forceout put runners on the corners for Noah Mack, who drilled a single to left to plate a run. A passed ball brought home another, giving the Dragons a 2-0 edge. NP plated a run in the third when Jenkins doubled and came home on Mack’s two-out single.

Scecina came back in the fourth with three runs on one hit, two walks and an error to tie the game. The Crusaders would only get two baserunners after – both singles.

Mack led the Dragons’ seven-hit attack, going 3-for-3 with two RBI singles. Jenkins was 2-for-3 with a double, triple, walk and three runs. He drove in two. Jaden Jaques doubled, while Neligh had an RBI single.

The Dragons improved to 13-11 on the season. They next play Tuesday at Bloomington North.

Colby Jenkins’ two-run triple broke a 3-3 tie. He had two extra-base hits and scored three times.
Jaden Jaques pitched a complete-game victory Monday.
