The New Palestine track teams both won the Hancock County championships Wednesday night at Mt. Vernon.
NP’s girls won with 91 points, beating Greenfield-Central (68), Mt. Vernon (67) and Eastern Hancock (18). The Dragon boys won with 103 points, beating MV (72.5), EH (42.5) and G-C (23).
Jordan Reid and Laine Schonauer were the Athletes of the Meet.
Reid swept her four events. She won the 100 (12.48), 200 (26.24) and 400 (59.07). She was also part of the winning 4×400 relay team, joining Sophia Taylor, Maigan Williams and Brenna Shaw.
Kaylin Casner also was a triple-winner for the Dragons. She won the 800 (2:27.99) and 1600 (5:20.33). She was part of the 4×800 relay team with Shaw, Grace Voelz and Taylor.
Aden Lumbley was the Dragons’ other winner, taking the shot put in 39-4.5.
Individual runners-up for the Dragon girls were Shaw in the 800, Emma Mann in the 3200, Williams in the 300 hurdles and Anna Ackerman in the pole vault.
The Dragon boys were also dominant.
Schonauer won three events, taking the 400 in a close photo finish in 49.96 seconds. He also won the high jump (5-8), with Dylan Harsin finishing second. He was also part of the winning 4×400 relay and finished second in the 200.
Ryker Large won the 100 (11.36) in a photo finish. Drew Austin won the 800 (2:02.22) and led a 1-2 finish in the 1600 with Josh Collins. Austin ran 4:36.78. Collins won the 3200 (10:04.14). Spencer Worth won the pole vault (12-0). Richard Clevenger was the county champ in discus (137-08). Also finishing second was Tucker Keevers in the shot put.
Large, Carson Sams, Schonauer and Austin won the 4×400 relay. Owen Kleine, Sams, Devon Whitaker and Austin won the 4×800 relay.
