Joshua Jaques pitched a complete game victory and Jack Walker went 3-for-3, leading the New Palestine baseball team to a 5-3 victory over Zionsville.
Jaques allowed five hits and two earned runs in the victory. He struck out six and held the Eagles off the scoreboard in the last four innings.
Zionsville took an early 2-0 lead in the first with a two-out rally, but NP immediately responded to tie the game. Colby Jenkins singled to lead off the game and scored on a double by Jack Walker. Noah Mack’s RBI single plated Walker.
In the third, shortly after Zionsville scored a run on an error and a hit, the Dragons took the lead, again with the top of the order setting the table. Jenkins led off with a walk. Grant Wiegand followed with a base hit. Walker tied the game with a single to center. Aven Jones later drew a bases-loaded walk to put the Dragons up 4-3.
NP extended the lead to 5-3 in the fifth, with Eric Roudebush, Jacob Bain and Grant Hickman all hitting singles – the latter plating a run.
Zionsville had a baserunner in each of its last three at-bats, but Jaques was able to finish things off.
NP had 10 hits. Walker was 3-for-3 with a run, a double and two RBI. Jenkins was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs. Mack and Hickman each had a hit and an RBI. Wiegand had a hit and a run, as did Roudebush. Bain also had a hit.
The Dragons are now 10-7 on the season and have won six of their last eight games. NP next plays Friday at home against Delta in a doubleheader.
