The New Palestine golf team finished a close second in Tuesday’s Hancock County meet, carding a 166 at Hawk’s Tail.
The Dragons finished five strokes back of champion Mt. Vernon, which shot 161. Greenfield-Central was third with 170, four strokes back of NP.
Quinn Dobbins led the Dragons with a 39. Josh Shinkle added a 41. Chris Guhl and Matt Kelley both shot 43s and Matthew Barada a 44.
“We knew it would be a dogfight and had it covered until the 5s posted their scores,” NP coach Gregg Greene said. “MV’s Dunham carded a 37 and took medalist for the county. Overall, it was good preparation for how close conference and sectional will be this year. We know what we need to fix but it’s not always simple to execute. When it gets super close, not only do you need great scores in your first four but also a solid fifth to help break the ties.”
The Dragons are next in action Thursday at Warren Central.
