The New Palestine track and field teams had strong showings at Friday’s Zionsville Invitational.
The Dragon girls tallied 83 points, one back of second-place Brownsburg. Zionsville was the champion with 124. The Dragon boys were sixth with 49.3 points in the 10-team invitational.
For the Dragon girls, Jordan Reid had a great start to the meet, winning the 100 meters in 12.53 seconds. Reid also finished second in the 400, with Sophia Taylor finishing sixth. Aden Lumbley was second in the shot put. Jada Hausz placed third in the high jump. Kaylin Casner was fourth in the 1600. Brenna Shaw placed sixth in the 800.
The Dragons were runners-up in the 4×400 relay, third in the 4×800 and seventh in the 4×100.
For the Dragon boys, Laine Schonauer finished second in the 400 and seventh in the 200.
Spencer Worth tied for fourth in the pole vault. Drew Austin placed sixth in the 1600.Carson Sams was seventh in the 400. Ryker Large was eighth in the 100. Devon Whitaker placed eighth in the 800. The 4×100 relay was seventh, while the other two relays placed fifth.
The track teams next compete in the county meet Wednesday at Mt. Vernon.
