Girls Varsity Gymnastics · Gymnasts fifth at regional

The New Palestine gymnastics team placed fifth at Friday’s Columbus East regional.

The Dragons tallied 99.925 points in the regional. Columbus North won with a total of 109.65. Richmond (105.35) and Columbus East (104.925) also clinched spots in next week’s State Finals at Ball State.

The top three teams and top six individuals in each event advance to the State Finals.

Kennedy Garrett led the Dragons in the all-around with a total of 34.65, finishing seventh. Grace Shanahan was 12th (33.05) and Emma Poag 15th (31.175).

On vault, Garrett scored 8.8 and finished ninth. Sarah Thompson was 19th (8.5) and Poag 21st (8.45).

On bars, Garrett’s 8.2 finished 13th. Shanahan was 16th (8.05) and Alyse Rickey 24th (7.65).

On balance beam, Garrett finished eighth (8.725). Shanahan was 18th (7.975) and Poag 27th (6.8).

On floor exercise, Thompson was 13th (9.175), Garrett 17th (8.925) and Shanahn 20th (8.675).

The Dragons completed a successful season, and Thompson – the lone senior – a successful career.

Kennedy Garrett led the Dragons with a seventh-place finish in the all-around.
