The New Palestine boys swimming team advanced 11 qualifiers to the sectional finals from Thursday’s preliminaries.
Saturday’s sectional will begin with diving at 9 a.m., followed by the swimming and diving finals at 1 p.m. at the NPHS natatorium.
NP advanced two swimmers to the final heat in three events. Tyler Corey was fifth (23.69) and Damon Estes eighth (24.49) in the 50 freestyle. Jackson Schwartz was fifth (52.07) and Corey sixth (52.19) in the 100 freestyle. Marlon Cabrera was seventh (59.84) and Ben Miesse eighth (1:01.41) in the 100 butterfly.
Also advancing to the finals were Cabrera in the 100 backstroke (fifth, 1:00.22) and Schwartz in the 200 freestyle (eighth, 1:58.02).
The 200 medley relay of Anthony Stultz, Chase Siler, Cabrera and Corey was third in the prelims with a time of 1:51.30. The 200 free relay of Damon Estes, Siler, Miesse and Kyle Ellis was fourth in 1:40.57. The 400 free relay of Jaxson England, Miesse, Quincy Shirk and Stultz was eighth with a time of 4:21.17. All three advance to the finals.
The top eight swims in the prelims advance to the sectional finals. Places 9-16 swim in the consolation finals.
NP advanced to the consolation finals in eight spots. Miesse was 11th in the 200 free. In the 200 IM, Siler was 11th and Ellis 13. They also advance in the 100 breaststroke, where Siler was ninth and Ellis 11th. Stultz advances in two events, finishing 14th in the 100 backstroke and 16th in the 500 freestyle. Estes advances in the 100 freestyle, where he was 10th in the prelims.
