Girls Varsity Gymnastics · Gymnasts win Rushville Invitational


The New Palestine gymnastics team won the Rushville Invitational for the eighth consecutive year Saturday, tallying 99.925 points.

The Dragon gymnastics team celebrates its eighth straight Rushville Invitational victory.

Rushville (93.2) was second in the eight-team invitational. Shelbyville (84.875) was third.

Grace Shanahan was the all-around winner with a score of 35.075. Kennedy Garrett was third in the all-around (32.275) and Emma Poag fifth (30.950).

Shanahan and Sarah Thompson went 1-2 in the floor exercise. Shanahan scored 8.95, with Thompson 8.825. Poag was fifth (8.5) and Garrett seventh (8.375).

Shanahan also won on beam with a score of 9.15. Alyse Rickey was fourth (7.775), Garrett fifth (7.75) and Anna Greiner eighth (7.45).

Shanahan won on uneven bars (8.45). Rickey was third (7.475), Garrett fourth (7.45) and Poag fifth (7.125).

On vault, Garrett was second (8.7), Shanahan fourth (8.525) and Poag seventh (8.375).

The Dragons next compete Wednesday at home against Franklin Central and Muncie Central.
